Freeform Massage
When booking specific modalities, they tend to limit the creativity to specific techniques and protocol. I prefer to think of these different modalities as tools available to best target the specific needs of each client. We discuss the goals for that session and I use what I have found to be most effective for past clients. This palette is primarily drawn from the following influences: Swedish which focuses on light circulatory and calming strokes to achieve relaxation. Deep Tissue which incorporates a more intense pressure into targeted muscle groups, moving very slowly, often with use of fists, forearms and elbows. Sports which involves a lot of stretching, compressions, circulatory and mobilizing techniques. Thai which is primarily stretching and compressing the body in different configurations to increase range of motion and mobility, and improve circulation. Myofascial Release which targets fascial restrictions through supporting a mental space and physical position to allow the body to release it's holding patterns (see more below). Lomi which focuses on long, connected strokes which integrate the entire length of the body instead of segmenting techniques into regions. Spontaneous Muscle Release Technique (SMRT) which seeks to activate the parasympathetic system through gentle influence to skeletal structures where contributing to asymmetries and eccentric muscle holding patterns. These and other custom techniques are all considered as we formulate the best treatment for you.
Myofascial Release
The John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach® provides safe, gentle and consistently effective therapy for fascial restrictions resulting from imbalances due to trauma, inflammatory responses, surgical procedures, deeply held tensions and poor posture. Fascia is uninterrupted connective tissue from head to toe. It is all encompassing covering muscle fibers, bones, nerves, blood vessels and cells. Many of its local manifestations of distortion have distal effects on the body. MFR treats the entire mind/body system whereby, eliminating the pressure of the restricted myofascial system, "the straightjacket", that causes pain related symptoms.
Visualize fascia as netting for your bones and organs, suspending and holding all of your internal body structures in place. It is a highly complex biological dense fabric that holds us together. There are approximately 70 trillion cells within this fibrous 3D web-like maze. Fascia houses nerves, blood vessels and cells which help to keep your body functioning properly. When fascia is tight or strained, it is capable of placing immense pressure on the body systems, causing pain, discomfort and dysfunction. Sustaining gentle MFR pressure helps to relieve these tight, guarded and painful restrictions. You will feel your mind/body go from resisting to releasing.
